Over the past year, the folks at Roscioli Yachting Center have hosted several events to showcase the new covered sheds and office building in its expansion. On Sept. 23, it’s our turn to see it up close. On that fourth Wednesday in September, join us for The Triton’s third annual poker run. (See more details on page B21.) The run will end at RYC for networking from 6-8 p.m. In the meantime, learn more about the yard from its founder, Bob Roscioli.

The first Wednesday in August, join us as we network at Ward’s Marine Electric, a pioneer in Ft. Lauderdale’s marine industry. The 59-year-old company can handle anything that has to do with electrical systems on yachts, from equipment to service. Find Ward’s at 617 S.W. Third Ave. (just south of the New River, just west of Andrews Avenue). Like always, we’ll gather from 6-8 p.m.

Talk about embracing the industry. Crew placement agency Crew Unlimited is hosting two Triton networking events on the first Wednesday in June, one in Ft. Lauderdale and one at its new office in Antibes.

The Triton’s first networking event this month on May 6 (the first Wednesday of May) is at Lauderdale Marine Center, the Ft. Lauderdale shipyard on the New River. Learn a bit about the yard from Dockmaster John Terrill, a former megayacht captain, and make plans to visit the repair yard at 2001 S.W. 20th St. from 6-8 p.m.

With summer approaching, one can’t help but think of long, sunny days. If you work on a yacht, however, those long, sunny days also mean really hot days, even inside where it’s air conditioned.

The Triton began hosting monthly networking events when we started our newspaper in 2004. Back then, we attracted 25-30 people, and it felt good to bring crew and business together. Now, our events attract 10 times that many industry professionals, and with the economy the way it is, everyone has been asking for more. So in honor of our sixth year, we will now host two networking events every month.

Our first mid-month networking event will take place on April 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the Ft. Lauderdale offices of Total Marine Solutions, a distributor of mostly environmental systems for the marine industry. Founder Alexandra Anagnostis-Irons parlayed her experience in technical equipment in the cruise line industry to the yachting industry. Make time to stop by her facility at 4350 Oakes Road, Suite 502.

Darren Coleman and Joey Ricciardelli are known as the YES Boys. Partners in the Ft. Lauderdale-based Yacht Entertainment Systems, the "boys" have built a business installing and maintaining audio-visual systems on motor yachts.

We take a break this month to welcome back Donna Bradbury, gracious sponsor of one of our networking events last fall when her company was known as Blue Water Alliance. This year, the name of the Switzerland-based, worldwide agency has changed, there’s a new logo, and a new marketing efforts afoot.

Coming back to Ft. Lauderdale means easing back into comfortable humidity, riding down those recognizable routes and bumping into lots of familiar faces. This month, for the third year, we bring our networking event to Kemplon Marine Engineering at 3200 S. Andrews Avenue, Suite 103. The team at Kemplon is breaking out the barbecue to help us kick off the boat show season with great networking.

Many countries in the world celebrate Labor Day in May. Americans celebrate it on the first Monday in September and more than anything else, it signifies the end of summer. The Tuesday afterward means back to school and back to work.

It’s not as hard to find as the hard-to-find items this provisioner specializes in tracking down. It’s a few blocks behind Lester’s Diner on State Road 84 at 2921 S.W. 2nd Ave.

Even though the Summer Solstice won’t arrive in the Northern Hemisphere until June 20 (or June 21, depending on where you are), temperatures in South Florida have already been driving up into the 90s. As one broker quipped at last month’s Triton networking soirée, forecasters are predicting one more cool day this year – in October.

Begun in 1916 by a group of Dutch ship owners who saw how radio could be used in shipping, Radio Holland Group has come along way from Morse code. The radio officers are long gone, too, having made way for satellite communications. The company still has offices in major shipping ports worldwide – more than 800 people work at more than 50 locations today.
